As most people aware by now and as relayed to you in our clubrooms last Saturday, Brendan was involved in a motor accident two weeks ago and is in Christchurch and has now been transferred to the Burwood Hospital Spinal Unit
Brendan, or as he is affectionately known, “Angry” as many people in our rugby family and for that matter the wider rugby community know, is a well-liked and respected contributor to our game.
Brendan over the many years of his service to the club has coached championship teams in Senior A, Senior Woman and Senior B for Waimea Old Boys.
He has served as Club Captain, COD to Nelson Bays, Management Committees and this year was to have been the Senior A Manager, and his other contributions as a passionate Waimea man are sincerely appreciated.
HLS Waimea Old Boys have a number of initiatives under action to support Brendan in the months ahead.
At this stage the family, especially Bridgette and Kieran, who are doing a marvellous job, would like to concentrate on supporting Brendan and allowing the doctors and specialists to do their job and visitors are limited to family.
Bridgette has provided the following address for any mail, and you are welcome to send messages of Support, Cards etc to this address:
Attn: Brendan O’Connor (Angry)
Burwood Spinal Unit
Cnr Burwood and Mairehau Road
Although this is a tragic accident, those of us that know Brendan closely are also aware of how tough this individual is, and he is extremely positive and making good progress, albeit with a long road ahead.
Please respect the wishes of both Kieran and Bridgette during this time, so they can put their energies and focus into Angry. When Bridgette advises me that it is appropriate for non-Family members to visit I will advise you all and the necessary visiting arrangements will be made with Bridgette and Kieran.
The Best Wishes of the Club have already been forwarded to Brendan and Family
Kia Kaha Brendan our thoughts are with you and family
